When i turn the heaters on i get lots of condensation blowing out from the windscreen vents and footwell. Looks like smoke but its obviously condensation as the screen steams up in seconds and goes all damp. Any ideas what this will be. In need of an urgent fix ITS COLD IN THE MORNINGS i want some heat and dont want to be wiping the screen all the way in.

2 things come to mind

leaking heater matrix

the large fresh air intake that runs from the drivers side foot well to the heater and also along the wheel arch, one of these is foam lined, if thats damp and soggy you will be drawing damp air in.

Will i need to replace the pipe if damp. Just checked matrix wher pipe joins it is slightly wet so could need tightening or new matrix???

Never tried but I would guess the foam lining may pull out, to allow you to dry it..

The leak sounds most likely though

Would that cause the condensation coming from the vents. It is a lot and like i say looks like smoke belowing out but its not.

If the matrix is leaking, you will be getting hot water coming out of the matrix, the heater passes air over that matrix and through your vets, so if there is hot water / steam coming out the matrix this will get blown through your vents...
moisture heat and cold air produce mist which is what is coming out the vents.

I had exactly the same problem on my Mk1 Cooper. It is most likely going to be the heater matrix leaking as already mentioned. Obviously very dangerous if left over winter. Depending on the heater you have, make sure you kionow the distance between the two water connections. I think they can be 115mm, 125mm and perhaps another option is available.

Even if you fine that it wasn't leaking (even though this is going to be the most likely cause), takig the matrix out to flush it will be a good idea anyway as these items are often forgotten when flushing out the radiator.
