I believe you need plates, or brackets that the jack acts on welded/attached to your front panel/subframe/bumper. Could be wrong on that though...

It's an over-centre jack and as Jammy says it hooks onto specific fittings that need adding to the front panel. The fittings are still available and from them and this picture you could probably work out exactly how this jack is put together. Whether it's a good idea or not is another matter....

Mini Spares

There's the plates, there are two fitted at the front and two at the rear. They lift from the bumper flange and have to be screwed into the valence panels with the top edge hard against the bumper lip or they'll just bend thing. That's why I wondered whether it was a good idea, the bumper lip and rear valence on most Minis is fairly rusty and not something i'd be lifting the car by. That's also why I don't like the Witter made tow bar for Minis, all the load is on the bumper lip. Obviously you'd check the strength of those panels before you started using this type of jack but they can always corrode after it's fitted without you noticing.

The jack itself is just a re-inforced and very tall sack truck really! So long as you get the angles right so that it really does move a long way over centre to keep it jammed in tight when the car is in the air you can't go far wrong.

It's just an edge that locates in the slot of the bracket.
