Right I think it is about time I started a project thread. For the past few months I have been compiling parts and funds to start my project.

I first bought my mini in Jan 2006 at the tender age of 16 with the intention to tart it up and use it as a daily drive once I had passed my test. I got it resprayed and brought alloys and other bits. I then passed my test on christmas eve 2006 and got me self insured. I drove it for around two months until I spotted my current daily drive for sale and brought that. I put my project up for sale but it didn't sell. Anyway fast forward to now and I have it off the road and waiting for it's transformation.

The spec I hope to build it to is-
1071 engine with lightened internals
straight cut gearbox
straight through exhaust with a little something special for the backbox (more on that later)

z-cars front subframe with protech coilovers all round
mini spares rear beam
Kad lightened rear hubs and possibly lightened rear radius arms
kad four pots to fit under 10" alloys

BRG shell with carbon fibre bonnet and boot
rally style lamp pod
5 point roll cage
stripped out interior with classic style bucket seats and harnesses

This is just a rough spec and I will go into more detail once I have got the parts and have started to fit them. So far I have got all the carbon fibre bits and the 1071 bits, excluding the crank. However I know someone with a crank and they want a GRAND for it! I've also got the seats and the roll cage. I've started to strip the car but I will really start this weekend ready to hopefully get it resprayed in a few weeks/months time.

Now the Pics-

I will update this soon

I wouldn't mind being finished for british mini showdown but that might be a bit optimistic. As for budget I've spent around 2k already and I don't expect to have much left from another 5k.

As for the alloys they are on my current mini. I'm gonna buy some new ones and then refurb these as the paint is chipped, and then possibly sell them don't know yet.

Surely a brand new billet is only about £700?

Got one off of ebay. I paid 255 for it, it has been used but is not quite on it's last legs. If anybody wants the number for the bloke with the crank for a grand pm me and i will give it to you.

As for the cage I already have the italian job 3 point rear and I am hoping to weld the two front legs onto that.

As for other bits with the project I have my protech coillies on order, the bloke who i spoke to at protech was spot on and helps with what you need. I have also taken full advantage of my TMF+ discount and have a pair of Specialist Component rear hubs on order.

It's all go and I am going to start the rebuild of a pair of radius arms I have kicking about this weeked hopefully

ceers, timbo

I got the 3 point cage from huddersfield spares, it comes in powdercoated black. I'm not sure yet whether to get it anodisd blue (same as z-cars subframe) or to get it chromed though.

Wee update- I finished rebuilding my reece/minnow fish carb today. I only really took it apart cleaned the majority of bits then put it back together. pics to follow

Pics of the reece/minnow fish carb-

I need to get a manifold for it as the one i brought with it isn't for a mini.

Also pic of the rear radius arms which I will start to rebuild tomorrow. Just sprayed all of the nuts with some penetration spray so they should be a bit easier to undo tomorrow -

Thought I would post up one or two pics of the stuff I have for the project. I haven't had time lately to work on it as I am working 7 days a week and when I'm not working I am doing college work for my job.

Anyway onto the pics, first the 1071 crank -

The protech coilovers which came this week -

Only the rears for the moment as I am hoping to buy a zcars front sub soon. I would really recommend protech as they listen to what you need them for and suggect what you need and had them sent to me within a fortnight.

And my ducati carbon fibre exhaust -

All for now still waiting for my carbon fibre bonnet, arches, rally style lamp pod and seats from Magnum motorsport but they should be with me next week. I will try and work on it soon and get some more pics up.

Just a quick update. The engine spec has altered slightly as I have now purchased a Megajolt kit and also a Eaton M45 Supercharger. So hopefully the end spec will be a supercharged 1071.

I have stripped the majority of the rear radius arms however I am having a wee bit of trouble getting the drums off of them. The drums are spinning freely but won't come off. Do you have to release them via the square rod at the back? (if that makes sense)

cheers, timbo

Try gently knocking the outside of the drum with a leather/nylon mallet/hammer., Often the need a little shocking to get them off.

the suare bolt on the back is the adjuster for the rear shoes, slacken that off too, then hit them with a hammer.
