Ugly Clutch Noise

Just taken the mini out for a run after work, and after leaning the mixture quite a bit as it was running well rich, we took it up to a steady 70mph (after hard acceleration) all was fine didnt complain atall - Till we got home. sat it in the driveway at idle to adjust the idle speed and heard an ugly noise comming from gearbox/clutch housing. Was a sort of knocking tapping noise hard to explain really. But after a clutch rebuild naturally i was carping myself thinking ive really f***ed it now!!
So has anyone got any suggestions? The noise stops when clutch is depressed and its currently stopped altogether but should i be concerned?
Thanks.

Taper Boss? We got a new friction plate and put it in between the flywheel and pressure plate via 8 bolts. Looked in haynes and saw: "pressure plate to flywheel bolts - 18lbf ft". which seemed about right as taking the bolts out i did with a small 1/4" socket set. All torqued up right sequence as per haynes and centre bolt done up to 112lbf ft.
It is a verto clutch by the way.

Like yourself the noise went when the clutch was pressed....
Are you having any kind of trouble getting it into gears at all?
