Hi all

I recently bought a Tahiti Blue mini and am in the process of getting it back to its former glory

A former owner had it resprayed in Tahiti as it was originally silver.

Anyway the paint is very dull and the laquer coat is about knackered

So, i started at the back. I took the boot off and rubbed that back to bare metal as there was a small amount of rust i wanted to treat. Once i had done this, it was primered, sprayed and laquered all using cans. I have done this before and can get quite a good finish this way.

While the boot was off, i did the whole of the back but as their was no rust, i simply flatted the paint / old laquer with 1200 - 1500 wet and dry and re-laquered. After a good bit of rubbing and a few coats of laquer, it came up really nice.

But, when i put the finished boot back on it is different shades !

So, will it cut back so it is all the same colour or will i have to rub back and repaint the whole back end to match the freshly painted boot ?

Don't want to do a load of work if not neccessary and all is required is a good cutting compoubd?

Any help would be fantastic

Thanks

when paint is mixed up there will always be a difference in colour per batch. when spraying a panel, first a colour match should be found (i dont mean just blue and blue, but shade and metalic content match) then when spraying you blend the base coat in with surrounding panels. in your case spray the boot and blend the two rear quarters. a good sprayer could loose it by the seam strips at the front end of the 1/4.
