Forgive me if this is already in the forum somewhere. I did search but came up empty.
Ok, I am a proud owner of a 1979 Mini 1000. Despite the fact that only abot 60% of the original Lucas wiring is still in place, almost everything works.
One little problem is my odometer. It does not turn even though the speedo works ok. I took it apart and discovered a few things. The odometer wheels were stuck, and the little nylon finger that pulls the odometer wheels had worn down as a result. I had a spare "broken" speedo and after freeing the odometer wheels and swapping the the nylon finger, it all worked. Until I reassembled the dask and started driving... 20 miles later and the odometer wheels are stuck again! ARRRRG!
Getting the Speedo in and out is literally painfull so I figure I'll replace the speedo rather than try to repair it again. The old one is a 1280TPM Smiths but it seems to be running fast. Given the age of the littel beast and god knows what modifications over the years, is there any way to know 100% which speedometer to get?
Minispares sells some nice speedos with KmPH primary markings but they indicate that it is designed for a 3.44 final drive. No mention of TPM.
Do you reckon this will work? Thoughts?

What's My Speedo's Tpm Supposed To Be?

The 1280 TPM speedo were calibrated in MPH for use with the 3.44 final drive (and originally for the 10 tires).
Does the broken speedometer not have a TPM number on it near the odo window?
Guessworks is the gearbox guy who probably can help you sort out what you need based on what you know about your car. In the meantime, you may want to visit the web site below, browse through the link I'm posting AND go back to their home page and do some searching on your own for related topics.
