1999 mpi with factory rover alarm,
when i switch the car off im only getting a solid red light showing on both alarm & immobliser settings
prior to this i was getting a slow continious flash on just immobliser and a rapid flash then onto a slow continious upon setting the alarm .
now no matter what i do , its just a solid red .
ive tried both my fobs and also re syncing , but no joy .
cars working fine but a tad worried about me battery ending up drained .
any ideas
phil...

it sounds like the ignition is staying on or one of the door switches are not operating correctly. after you go driving around and shut it off, can you restart the car without using the fob.
Drive the car and lock up , wait approx 30 secs and solid red light appears . You can only start again by pressing the fob each time .
i'll check my switches , also if i arm the alarm it will only go off when i turn the key in the ignition , not when i enter the car or rock it hard side to side.
so basically with the alarm set should i be able to enter the car , even when using my key !!! i sure it used to go off unless i de-armed it.
bit lost now........

30 seconds after switching off the engine AND opening the DRIVER'S door the immobiliser will kick in...
If you press the arm button on the fob, then the alarm will kick in too. the alarm doesn't turn itself on...
Have a look at the switches, make sure they're all OK, one hasn't worked itself loose... the solid light is usually an indication that a door is open...

Once you've finished driving you have 2 choices:
30 seconds after switching off the engine AND opening the DRIVER'S door the immobiliser will kick in...
If you press the arm button on the fob, then the alarm will kick in too. the alarm doesn't turn itself on...
Have a look at the switches, make sure they're all OK, one hasn't worked itself loose... the solid light is usually an indication that a door is open...
Thanks for the confirmation on operating the alarm , now im going to take a look at all the switches but just to confirm these are the black compressing type situated on doors , bonnet and boot .
If so can these be removed for inspection and to check connections, im sure its going to these !!
ive recently had the engine out to have a guessworks gearbox fitted(feb 08) all was well then, and just last week i had it undersealed aswell , it was when i got it back from undersealing the red light was on. I just thought that knowing what garages are like they just had few problems with the alarm going off and randomly pressed any or both buttons confusing the system and this would sort itself out .
obviously not lol.

Just take the screw out and pull the switch out of the aperature. depress it and start testing to see which one is at fault

Pretty certain it is one of your switches - most likely bonnet if you have had the engine out - probably got battered.
Just take the screw out and pull the switch out of the aperature. depress it and start testing to see which one is at fault
Excellent will give them all a check then .....
thanks all

problem was the interior light .............
does not light up when doors opened , its part of the alarm = solid red light means a fault ,
so now i know
the alarm is fully working with the interior light switched to the off position,
so i need to sort this little problem out now..
but hey at least its sorted

My alarm is after market.
I'm not sure how the actuators are wired, but only a couple of days ago, I noticed my interior light comes on when I open the boot. How convenient!
