Hi
I am in the process of refurbing my 848cc mini engine. I have two new water pumps to choose from, the standard flow, and the high flow. Both have cast impellors, and I am aware that in order to make the high flow fit, I have to modify the edge of the impellor so it doesn't foul the inside of the cylinder head.

Anyway, is it advsable to use a high flow pump on an 848cc? If it's not, then I can always use the standard pump.

Thanks

if the engine is to be used on the road then i would sick with the standard pump. i have a race 998cc and have never need a high flow pump.

If the car is going to be mainly revving low then a high flow pump would be fine. If you rev too much the flow increases far beyond what you would need and then engine might run too cool.

If I was you I would use the standard pump, its more than adaquate for cooling that engine.

I'm running a standard pump on my 1399cc pushing about 90bhp. Does the job fine.

Hi
I have only this afternoon put the standard pump in my 1960 mini minor, new kevlar solid hose bypass hose etc.

Bye the way, last year I put a high flow water pump in my 998 Mk1 cooper. Will this higher flow then damage the engine if it runs cool? The temp gauge reads normal in town driving and slightly hotter than normal on motorways.

Cheers

It shouldn't damage it at all really. The high capacity pump just means that you'll have more water passing through when your revving high.

That would be fine.
