Hi there i wondered if you could help.My 2000 mpi wont start unless i have my hand fully blocking the throttle body to act as a manual choke. As soon as i unblock the throttle body it stalls. The problem occured after fitting a maniflow manifold. I would be very grateful if someone could help.

not that i can hear. the only noise im getting wen it runs under full choke is sucking coming from the oil filler?

have you refitted the breather system correctly
I recon, by what you have said, that there is too much air entering the engine in one way or another that is causing the cranking enrichments to be too lean to start the engine, covering the throttle body you are restricting the air entering the engine enough to bring it back to a sort of normality that alows it to start.
Cant say I have ever noticed any sucking noise coming from the oil filler cap?

Water temp sensor? But if the sensor fail normally you can iddle, just hard to strat only.

have you reconnected the MAP (passenger side of the inlet manifold) and IACV (drivers side of the inlet)?
check the elbow rubbers between the inlet and the throttle body
throttle body sitting properly and sealed agains the inlet manifold?

ive been working on it for the last couple of days with no progress.but im now starting to think that i may have weak fuel pressure. The car will run perfectly when i do the good old pikey method of spraying fuel straight into the throttle body.what is the main cause for no fuel pressure.it pumps fuel through the rail on the first click of the key however?

i think it is an air leak, as someone said in an earlier post. most likely from the gasket between the head and inlet manifold, as you've mentioned that you've fitted a maniflow manifold. sometimes the flanges on the rover inlet and aftermarket manifolds aren't quite the same thickness. may be worth checking around this area.

check that the black inertia switch hasn't popped up. It might have gotten wacked when the manifold was replaced. Its what controls the power to the fuel pump and its designed to stop fuel in the event of an impact, but large bumps can get it to trip as well.

had the aa out to get a second opinion.o dear the guy knew cars like i know sowing machines!im convinced its fueling now.i Have bypassed the inertia switch had the injectors out they squirt fuel but with my little knowledge i know this is not the way in which they should work. A spark has a difficult time of igniting a puddle of fuel. So my next thought was power to the injectors and upon taking the relay off i have noticed a burnt out connector. What it leads to is beyond me but im hoping it leads to the injectors.so its out in the snow today to make a heath robinson connector just to see if this is my problem. Thankyou again for suggestions.
