I looked at all the different kits and after reading the rant directed at Jonspeed on this forum then looking at it from both points i felt that Jonspeed had handled the situation well
and this made me comfortable enough to place an order.
since then Ihave made 2 calls for tech advice and have been able to speak direct to Tony both times and got the right answer first time.
The kit was comprehensive and came with starter needle spring and float valve.
The kit more or less fits and if i were to do another it would take half the time, only small niggles were the breather blanking plug bolt head catching the lock tab on the timing sprocket despite turning it to give more clearance,I would simply weld a plate over with hindsight (rad and pulley back off)
The bottom hose needed some moddiing to clear belts .
The servo pipe fitting into the charger could have been better and i used an air line fitting.
my existing manifow heat wrapped exhaust was used and not the one supplied.
so far I am very happy with the finished fit and just need to get it running sweet as it has some fuel starvation which i will sort and post again with the results.

hi
yes i have purchased a jonspeed kit and am happy with it, i didnt how ever have as much trouble as your but different, my bottom blocking bolt was touching, i had to change the exhaust becasue my other lcb was touching and fitting the electric fuel pump was a bit of a bugger, other than that its been good.

Yes agreed tony is a very helpfull guy i have had to call him a couple of times.

Is there a bit of smoke coming out of your breather, tony seemed to think that this is natural just wondering if you haev the same?

Cheers

Sorry for late reply,No smoke from breather but my engine only 11,000 miles old.
Do you know what needle and spring you ended up with?and do you suffer from carb icing at all?
Thanks.

I'm currently running a Hybrid of a jonspeed kit and vmax kit. I started with the jonspeed, but found the carb to supercharger pipe to be a bit naff. It certainly fit OK, but looked as if it had been bent up at a cheap muffler shop. Since VMAX sell kit parts independantly, I bought one of their mandrel bent TIG welded pipes, and am very pleased. I have also switched my crank pulley to a VMAX one, as despite cutting quite a bit off of the top of the lower rad mount, the jonspeed one was fouling. The jonspeed pulley has 7 grooves for a 5 groove belt, making the pulley stick out much farther. The VMAX one leaves more room to get the belt on and off.

One of the main issues I spoke to Tony about was the fact that at idle, fuel pools up in the mouth of the carb, and upon revving the engine it sputters and coughs. This is apparently due to the fact that the carb to charger pipe has fuel condensing on the inside of it, then running down hill to the carb at very low RPM. The fix is a 1200 RPM idle, which seems to have cured it. The pipe does get quite frosty, although it hasn't caused any probs.

Another prob I have is that now I'm down to one breather, and after a bit of a highway jaunt at 4000 RPM, oil starts pushing its way out the dipstick hole. I definitely need another breather, and I've heard that the Metro Turbos had a breather at the mech fuel pump hole in the block. Can anyone confirm?

Other than that I'm quite pleased with both VMAX and Jonspeed. The engine is a bog standard 1275 with Avonbar 26cc head, and 1.5 roller rockers- put 110hp to the wheels on Southam Mini's rolling road.

The Metro Turbo uses the mech fuel pump hole for the Turbo oil drain, so no it's not a breather.

Ahh, but would it be easy to convert to a breather with a bit of silicone hose, and a breather filter? I assume there is a flange with a bit of pipe sticking out and upward? I've even thought of gutting the mech fuel pump, and using the lower body of the pump as a baffle and putting a flat plate on top with a pipe sticking up to link to a filter...

i wouldn't have thought it'd be an issue, i know a few people have used the dizzy drive hole aswell as an extra breather when they've gone to mapped ignition.

You'll find the breather off the top of a Maestro gearbox/engine is almost a perfect fit, just need to pull out the holes a little to line up with the fuel pump holes.... then it's a matter of keeping the pipes away from the exhaust, and all the other parafanalia down there with the supercharger...

I'll see if I can find a photo...
