After a visit to MiniSport in Padiham for a rolling road tuning session, I have come across a dilemma!!
The guy at minisport said the jonspeed kit I had will never run 100% due to the pipe running from the carb to the charger. He said the airspeed will always mean I will have flat spots. His answer was to put the carb at the same level as the charger, resulting in a large bonnet box!
However I feel that after being beat by an Astra GTE Turbo that a weber may have to be invested in.
I remember seeing a white mini for sale with a black bonnet and a huge box on the bonnet. If I remember correctly it had 180bhp.
Anyone have a link or picture of this?
Also what are your thoughts on the weber carb or any of the above?!
Thanks

The limiting factor is not the carb in this case. Even in suck through applications the 1 3/4" carb will easily flow enough for 200bhp. The supercharger will limit what flows through the engine.
I agree the long inlet from the carb is not ideal, but I don't agree that it will always cause flatspots. But there will likely be some hesitation between putting your foot down and the car accelerating, known as throttle response or lag.

I agree with will h on this matter. I have to admit though, I did see the Jonspeed conversion at the Malvern show and i wasnt too impressed with the bends on the inlet pipe work. It had really bad creases in it and that was on a motor that they were showing off.

The SU is a well underated carb, & as Wil says will deliver more than enough for your application. I'd stick to it.

Im running a Vmax unit with a weber and had to make a 'bulge' in the bonnet to fit over it. Brilliant for positive cold air feed. Pain to make!! Can get a pic up if you want to

just by an injection engine!
That would be ok if I hadn't just bought a new engine to fit the charger too. Also how would an injection make it any better?
