I'd like to have Tommy's brightwork rechromed, otherwise he'll look a bit odd when he's been resprayed. :D
Does anybody know how it's done? Is it acid-treated or summink?

Where I can get it done?

How much it is likely to cost?

Purrlease? =]

there are various grades of re-finishing available depending on how much you want to spend, and what level of finish you want.

Little mention here but the majority of a mini's original bright work tend to be polished metal. NOT chrome.

El Gordo's bumper, grille, lamp rigs and few other bits where all polished.

El Odio's grills, side grills and lamp rings are also polished.

I have yet to see it on the mini scene but I love the nickle plated look. Im going to have all my bright work done in it, as well as my exhaust manifold and a few engine parts.

It often works out cheaper to buy new bright work. Got a front bumper re plated for a Jenson interceptor cost £270.00.

probably best if you can find someone to sneak your minibits in with a production run rather than a 1 off job specialist.

Aye, allot of work goes into chroming. It's not a just a dip thing.

...

Although, my mate Fred got some stuff powder coated and he said they do a chrome finish one that looks good. So might be an idea?

I dropped a load off stuff into a platers on Monday in Wolverhampton and he is doing my clubman bumpers for £80 each. I thought that was dear but he was recommended to me by a chap I know off the rs owners club concours and the stuff he has had done is stunning so I thought I would try it.

Well, I shall ask around & get a number of quotes & let you guys know what kind of finish to expect for what price.

I would like to keep the GT's original bumpers & underiders, but if it's going to be a shocker on the wallet, then I may just replace them. :)

As Adam says, plastic coatings are pretty good now, so might be worth looking in to vinyl wrapping, powder coating etc. too.

They are still overriders by the way - because they stop your brum brum riding over what u hitted. :)

Little motoring anecdote, they originated in the USA because when they bumped in to one another in their big sloppy suspended cars they got stuck together as one car's bumper would go over the other's then hook in to the back.

Fascinating Mr Eff. I am enlightened. I still like to fink of them as under riders, though. :ermm:

You need to have your brain downloaded to a publicly available data warehouse so we can all freely upload the bits we need. Plizz? :errr:
