Spi Clutch, Flywheel, Reluctor Ring Help Needed

I just helped my mate take the clutch/flywheel out of his 1993 Single-point-Injection Mini Cooper. There's no key-slot or anything to define which way the flywheel assembly goes back on the crankshaft, and the Haynes manual doesn't tell you anything about how to time it correctly.... BUT the crank sensor reluctor ring in the back of the flywheel has 2 long gaps 180deg apart, so these must be meant to tell the ECU when cylinders 1 and 4 are at TDC or when cylinders 2 and 3 are at TDC...
So, the flywheel assembly must need to be timed up somehow - but how? And how accurately? Does the ECU use the crank sensor to tell it when to fire sparks (in which case it should be accurate to +/-1 degree or so) or just for fuel injection timing (in which case it probably doesn't matter much 'because it's only single point injection so there's loads of time for fuel and air to mix in the intake manifold before it gets to the cylinders)

from memory the fact the flywheel is semetrical means aslong as it sits on the crank with the keyway correct it will be fine aslong as you have the pressure plate correct, i have a mg metro pressure plate on my spi and its fine

Please Please tell me, you have fitted an Injection clutch? If not this can cause problems, but fixable.
