Hi

I'm planning to fit front speakers to the doors (somehow) and was doing some research on here the other day. I came across a post where somebody had used the rubber gatier from a metro tailgate to keep the wiring safe when the doors open and close. Trouble is, I can't find the post anymore, and the search facility doesn't seem to work very well.

Has anyone done this or something similar, or know's where this post is?

Cheers!

I ran the wires for my door-mounted speakers and central locking through the Metro tailgate "grommets" you describe. They're ideal for this as they're small enough for the job and look very neat. You will of course need to take the doors off to fit them properly, unless you've got a drill that goes round corners! You need to be careful about positioning, expecially if your door is fitted with the side impact beams (e.g. MPi, etc).

Good luck.

Nice one Kwack!

Is it a common part from all metro's or was it only for the rover 100 range? Also, how did you mount your speakers? I'm considering the replacement door pockets with speaker holes, but they're 50 quid a pair. Seems a bit steep!

Cheers!

Hi again,

As far as I'm aware, they're common to all Metros (with a rear wiper) though I could be wrong - I'm sure I pulled mine from a late-eighties example.

Regarding the mounting of the speakers, I fitted mine in purpose-made door pockets - I bought them from Minitrailers' website. I agree, they're quite expensive for what they are, but they do look like they've always been there. The alternative would be to either make your own, or use the door pockets from a late Austin Metro (the A series ones) as I understand these fit too.

Rgds,

Kwack

You could pretty much use the gaitor from any car that uses them.... just go down your local scrap yard and take a few types and try them out.

Mk 1 A series Metro speaker door bins (pre-85) fit directly on the Mini mounts, while the later ones (85-90) are a few screws out. The Rover Metro ones are entirely different.

Thanks folks!

Unfortunately, both my local scrappies have closed down :) They were great. You could clamber about wherever you liked nicking bits! Going to have to go further afield i think.

Anyone know anywhere decent in the Beds region?

Cheers!
