as title realy......
wired my mk1 boot light up and got the live and earth the wrong way round,
light stil worked but when i closed the boot and locked it the lock started 'fizzing' and got very hot........
closed and locked did nothing, and when i changed the wires back round it stopped altogether......
no wires were touching the lid or anywhere near the bracket and lock, infact nothing at all was near.
just asking out of curiosity.....

As i found out the other day, apparently yes
i was trying to find out what my door cards were made of and i was advised (by Rogue Se7ens) to test it with an ohm meter as carbon conducts electricity

I can confirm that it does.

gawd, i knew carbon was the only non metal that conducts but with the resin mixed i didnt kno if it would or not!

I'm quite suprised about that myself.. I thought there might be a protective layer over it to prevent problems..

mine is showing weave, but yeah it is laquered but obviously makes no difference!

yes it doesnt conduct

we used to use carbon electrodes to spark out back of extrusion dies on EDM machines, so in a solid state yes it conducts, i'd guess carbon fiber's would also conduct although resin could form a protective coat

The resin binds the fibers it doesn't necessarily completely surround them and insulate them from each other.
WARNING: Long winded story to follow.
I used to work in an industry that made equipment that wound carbon fibers onto spools. I was working with our electrical engineer one day as he was programming the machine's controller. While he was sitting on a chair behind the control panel (just as he was about to doze off to sleep) this thumbnail sized lint-ball of carbon fiber gently floated down from somewhere and landed across the machine's mains. There was a tremendous POP, a bright flash of light, then total darkness. When we reset the circuit breaker the electrical engineer was still sitting in his chair but was staring dumbly at the now dead programming equipment. In short... yes, carbon fiber conducts electricity very well.
