Hi All

Was just wondering about the best way to supply fresh cold air to a cone filter, rather than using flexible ducts from the grill inside the engine bay.

Has anyone out there got a bonnet scoop or air vent on their Mini? Would love to see some pics if possible.

Many thanks!

Are you trying to build a CAI kit?... if so,... do a search and you will see it's not worth the bother.

However for bonnet scoops, Have you tried looking in shops such as ABSmotorsport.net?... or TDK racing?.....

Thanks for that matey!

I did a search for CAI's and found the threads you mentioned. All those threads were refering to carb models however. Do you think there's any benefit for supply cold air direclty to a cone filter via bonnet scoop on an MPi engine, which is all sensor controlled and self adjusting?

I'm planning a few other small engine mods, namely an burlen throttle body and a power boost valve, both of which should maximise fuel flow. Now i need to find the best way to maximise air flow.

Cheers!

I belive you're best of talking to Minisprocket about injections systems, but i don't think the CAI will reap as much reward when compared to the throttle body on its own, coupled with a power boost valve it should pep it a bit,... the injections units main problem is the ECU.

i would look at overhauling the exhaust system too....

I also got air scoop molded on the hood (check the pictures on my website). It actually gets more attention than cold air in to it.. lol :( If I'd do it again I'd would put the scoop other way around as the air would find it's way out the engine bay better and perhaps to the air filter too. The best way (what I have noticed) to get more air to the air filter was to lift the backside of the bonnet a bit. In my case it felt that the engine got more grunt in low revs after doing that... :)

I had a bonnet with a power bulge which allowed some venting at the back, but i decided it wasn't bad enough so i slapped another vent on top of it.

Thanks guys!

I hadn't thought about letting hot air out to allow more cold in thro' the front. My initial thoughts/vision about a bonnet scoop was something quite suttle. A bit like the Bini Cooper S scoop, which is a recessed hole rather than a protruding lump. Much as I hate to praise the small BMW, I think they got the bonnet air intake right. A suttle indication of power.

The link to ABS that Retro posted has a bonnet based on the Bini one, but unfortunately, it lacks the character ridge down the middle, otherwise it'd be perfect. A little modifcation underneath to direct and compress/smooth the air directyl to filter would have done the job nicely.

But I do like the sound of your idea Bungle, using the ERA bonnet instead (all the best to mrs bungle, by the way. hope she's doing great! ) I always wanted an ERA when I was a nipper! Ahhh....how the years have flown!

Anyone know of an single inlet bonnet though, which retains the central hump? I say single rather than twin, because it kinda leans away from Scooby's, RS's and Evo's and more towards Astons :shifty:

Would also love any recommendations on exhausts to compliment the other planned mods! Would love to finish off with a twin 1.5"-2" side exit.

Cheers!
