okay, MG midget uses the A series engine?

so in theory the midget carbs and manifold are a straight bolt on to the mini?

so, to do a conversion to twin carbs

pair of second hand midget carbs w/manifold
mechanical fuel pump blanking plate
electric fuel pump
air cleaners of some description

correct?

off with the old carb and manifold, fuel pump off, blanking plate on, bolt electric fuel pump to bulkhead, wire pump to ignition, fit filters to midget carbs, bolt on carbs and manifold, hook up old fuel line to new pump, new line coming out of pump to T piece on carbs and done?

cars a 1991 rover cooper carb, bored out +20 other than that standard. got a maniflow exhaust waiting for me at work with an LCB....thought that with a pair of 1.25 SU's would go a treat

can anyone see a problem with my thinking here?

I had a mechanical pump on my 1100 with twins taken off a midget - ran fine, but I did buy a new inlet manifold as the midget one was damaged.

There is another important bit you'll need.

The Midget and Mini carbs sit at different angles relative to being vertical. There are rubber bushings that go between the float bowls and the carbs that you need to replace to set this angle correctly.

I believe that the intake manifold for the Midget also sits at a different angle than the Mini. I'm not sure what you need to do regarding that.

Regardless of where you actually buy the rubber bushings, they will come from Burlen so contacting them first may save you a lot of hassle.

If you're looking for a blanking plate for the old mechanical fuel pump, I'd think Mini Spares and some of the other parts suppliers would have them. You will not be able to get that from Burlen (it's too engine specific). You can always make your own plate from a piece of steel or aluminum. Use a piece of cardboard and cut a hole in it to clear the operating lever/foot for the mechanical pump. Slide the cardboard up the pump against its mounting flange. Trace the profile and mounting holes onto the cardboard. You now have a template to use to get the correct shape and hole spacing.

fella here at work might be selling his twin carbs off his midget - of any interest ? They work fine but hes putting a single 1" 3/4 due to modifications.

He's gonna have to machine the dashpot to get it to fit, fouled the bonnet on my '68

Fitted a 45 instead

hang on - hes removing the twin 1.25's and replacing them with a single 1.75?

whats the purpose of that then, i thought the twin 1.25's would extract a bit more BHP from the A series??

No, twin carbs don't produce more power, unless their manifold is better flowing than the single manifold they are replacing. There is a marked increase in throttle response, though.

Give you all a tip - If any of you have any Midget 1.75" SU manifolds then stick them up on ebay. As a previous MIdget owner I know how rare they are (and most of them are sitting in the loft of mini owners). Titan's are going for £40 - £50

what, the standard manifold from the 1.75 SU??

if thats fetching 50 quid then overall the conversions only gonna cost roundabout £50 to do including the replacement fuel pump

does the midget manifold have the hose takeoff on it though, or would that be a case of dropping the carbs onto a mini designed manifold?
