I have just replaced the rear brake shoes and when installing the bottom spring I noticed that a groove (about 1.5 mm deep) has been worn in the hub. Suspect whoever replaced the previous shoes put the spring in upside down, causing the uncoiled section of the spring to rub on the hub.

It is a very neat groove, at first I thought it had been machined, but it is not present on the other side. Am surprised that the hub has worn and not the spring.

Question is should I replace the hub? Is it likely to fail due to the groove? Consequences if it does fail?

Minispares has new hubs for 50 pounds, MiniSport for 10 pounds. Unable to determine the difference, any ideas?

Cheers,
Glen
