Shortly I will be fitting my fibreglass smoothy boot (twin skined), just waiting till I have all the bits I need to complete the job.
A couple of things I need to ask though.

1. There is a small chip on the top left edge about 1/2 a little fingernail size, how easy would this be to repair ie: do I use some sort of filler sush as isopon or try and stick a small piece of new fibeglass in and reshape?

2. Where the hinges go through I take it I will need a biggish washer before the nut, but the area I have to work with wont allow a large washer. So can you get oval shaped washers for this purpose?

i had to fit 1 of these in work a while back. it was the biggest kn*b i have ever had the misfortune to work on. where the hinge nuts go, i had to use a belt sander to cut away enough fibre glass so that the hinges could be bolted on properly. then i had to do the same for the boot handle. it wasnt very good to be honest. fit was poor, boot leaked like a sieve! if you want a smooth boot, my advice would be to get a metal one, have a plate welded over the recess and fill and paint that instead. that way you know it will at least fit properly!

I have just bought one of these from customminis, and the fit is awesome. Just as good as a standard metal one.

a bit of filler will be fine.

i have just fitted a carbon boot and used the washers that were on the std boot lid, they were about 1cm big......

dont bother with a boot lock or handle. i am fitting a smoothy boot and im using locking bonnet pins in the top corners to secure it shut.

I still want to use the original lock so is there some sort of template to get the hole in the right place?
