Reading through one of the threads in here, someone mentioned that they wired up the ignition start to the brake test switch, so that you have to hold it while it starts and then you can release it.. I think its a fantastic idea for security, in combination with other stuff of course. Noone followed it up though. Has anyone done it? How? Cheers!

Can this be done then, & how?

It'd be a nice security thing I wouldn't mind having.

I'm guessing you break a wire from the ignition, feed it through the brake test switch, and back to the ignition, so when it's pressed the circuit is complete and away you go?

I'm shocking at electronics by the way, so the above was a guess.

The switch already has an ignition dependent supply.

If you just interupted the the starter motor it would be no protection against bump starting and if you interupted the ignition coil you wouldn't want to have to drive around with your finger on the brake switch.

I'm sure it can be done just needs a little more thought - oil pressure switch, crossover relay?

had a little think about this,, on later minis 1988 onwards i belive they have a wire in the loom which is white and red,, this wire is for the automatic transmission inhibitor switch. now im not 100% but i belive by placing a switch in series with this wire would create a start switch??? i have no idea what the purpose of the switch on an automatic model is if someone has an auto maybe they could shed some light??

this then i belive would work if this is true about the wire as on later models it just has a plug and socket style join to create the connection,, thus adding a switch would make it possible to prevent the car from starting so you could hide the switch??? does anybody agree?
