ok last week i blew my head gasket on my car,but it was fairly close to home so a i managed to get a tow home.

but if id been alot futher away then it would have been very hard to get home.
so for the amount it costs i may just as well join up and be covered.

so whos good and whos bad please put down who your with and your experience for all to see as in think we can all benifit from this.
thanks

between rosie and me, on 2 cars we have a choice of 4 breakdown policies...

I have one policy with Britannia Rescue, and one policy through my Adiran Flux insurance with Equity Redstar.
Rosie has cover with the AA and one through HIC with equity redstar too...

all of these are VERY good, and I would recommend all of them...

I'm with RAC, £30 a year, and I'm covered for both my cars, or any car I am a passenger in! Mustn't grumble at that.

I joined RAC on the M3 when I stil had my Rover. I needed it ten minutes down the road.

I have had to use them four times (one was a works car, and it just so happened to be the same guy that came out that had come out to me about a week before in my own car).

Everyone I have dealt with there has been great.

A friend of mine was with the AA, and it turned out his policy didnt have accident cover. He wasnt impressed when he had his accident so now he is with the RAC as well.

I've got my own personal AA man, well everytime I've broken down its been him!!

Its getting embarrassing.

So far he's:-

Broken fanbelt on '70 midget

Rotor Arm on Mini

Carb spraying petrol everywhere(but not in engine)same mini

Fuel injection fell apart on Golf Gti Cab

Thrust brg fell apart on '73 Midget!!

Head gasket on mini(mrs shifty)

He actually remembers where I live now!!

I've always had a good service off them and they(Him) have always done their best to fix by the rd.

Of all of these policies, I have found the AA one to be of most use. I have full cover (which cost a little over £100 for a year) but this covers me for almost any situation (except accidents, as mentioned below) it covers me in any vehicle, at home or away from home and also when I've taken something apart and can't get it back together! :dontgetit: then if they can fix it in 20 mins they will, and if not they'll take me to a garage. The HIC, Flux and Britannia policies are recovery only so they wont try to fix it 1st, but the HIC on and the Flux one include european cover, which the AA will charge more for...... so there are pros and cons with all of them.

another thing to find out is whether they limit your callouts. I have called the AA out loads of times (about 15 in a year) for one of the cars in the household, and they have never questioned the amount of times I have called them, where as Britannia have asked for proof of repairs in the past to continue Toms cover.

I joined RAC on the M3 when I stil had my Rover. I needed it ten minutes down the road.

I have one recovery included on my insurance policy for any accident (the actual insurance policy, not the related breakdown policy) but that does mean i have to pay my excess to use it (and I'm not sure if this is included on the majority of policies, maybe only fully comp??)

I'd ring around if I were you, it might take some time, but you'll be more likely to find a policy that suits you!

My ex boyfriend's Dad was a breakdown/recovery man and when I bought my first car he told me to go with Britannia/Green Flag as in his opinion they were the best ones.

Tesco do a top level breakdown service that costs about £55 and they use Green Flag I think.

I'm currently with RAC as I got a discount, I've called them out 3 times and I can't fault them either.

I used to be with Britannia and they were good the one time I had to use them when the cam belt when on my Clio :P

1 x crashed car
1 x 1989 XR31 covertable out of diesel
1 x mazda 323 stuck on a big rock
1 x Calibra alternator blown

1 x wouldn't break into my car when I lost the keys as it was on my drive way....

Overall, good service from the AA and at only £40 odd a month (if I remember right)

I've got AA. I get it Freeee :P Through my Lloyds TSB account. :P

Have used em once which was my second accident.

AA picked my mini on the second accident for £100. THey were with me with a recovery vehicle within 15 minutes. Plus they send you a text on ETAs.

They don't pick up vehicles that are involved in RTAs.

They were very good with me and the driver said i should have it repaired. Which i did.

Their prices and service look very tempting. Unfortunately they won't cover cars over 16 years old (the swines), so that rules them out for me.
