Hi can anyone tell me how much power a basic ministry of sound cd player would use when switched of ?????? My battery keeps going flat and i have traced it to the cd player but don't know if its just normal power used by the cd players memory or if its down to bad wiring !!!!!!!!! The drain is 0.9 what evers !!!!!!!!!!!! Have moved the stereo wire to the ignition fuse for now so it has no power when the ignitions of but would really like to have it working properly !!!!!!
You should have 2 power wires on the back of your head unit - one permanent live, so that the radio doesn't forget all it's settings and the time etc, and one switched live, so that it will turn on and off with the ignition.
In all honesty, the radio on it's own wont flatten the battery, there must be something else.
Perhaps you are using an amp that's always turned on?
How did you decide that the power drain was the radio?
Thanks for the reply, i think the power drain was due to there only being one live which was connected to the permanently live fuse !!!!!! Found someone to give the electrics a quick check and he found the drain which disappeared completely when we moved the stereo live to the ignition fuse. Will get the dash of at the weekend and connect the live wires up properly
there's a guide to installing the head unit, what colours do what etc pinned at the top of this ICE section of the forum...
a layman's guide to see if it's sorted... once it's done, take your battery terminal off... either one will do. If it sparks when you put it bakc on, the drain's still there... if it doesn't, then it's all cured...
thanks for that, i was wondering how to check for a drain myself. Have got a multimeter but have only just figured out how to test the alternator with it !!!!!!!!!!!
