My mini is Moonraker blue and is in fair condtion, Last year i rattled canned the front wing and A panel with "Moonraker blue" I red oxide primed three coats then three coats of black then three coats of moonraker blue, I then put on three coats of laquer.

However the finish was three to four shades lighter than the original body work, I am doing it again as so fed up with the finish and can anyone advise of the best what to get the colour match!! I have read the detailing guide but am still at a loss!

Cheers

Oh and its rattle cans in the open air with loads of masking off and cover up as opposed to in a heated garage.

Colour coded cans off the shelf will NEVER match your cars paint perfectly.

Take your bootlid to a paint shop and ask them to mix you up a few colour matched rattle cans. This is the only way to get it to match the rest of your car.

Could just be the paint isn't an exact match, if you get the colour code a specialist paint stockist should be able to make you up a spray.

saying that I recently did a small body repair at the rear of mine plus replaced rear valance and boot floor section, its Flame Red, and the rattle cans I brought from Halfords where an exact match.

You're lucky! reds especially flame red is very difficult to match 100%. There are several variants of most colours, it's highly unlikely you'll get a good colour match with an aerosol unless it's a very dark colour.

I may have dropped lucky because the car was only resprayed 2 years ago, so not the original paint, then dropped lucky with the can being a good match.

If you want a 'invisable repair' then scotch off the A panel and door, as well as the front panel, and blow the basecoat across them, losing them very gradually.

You want to have lost the edge of the basecoat by 1/3 a way along the door really, and lose it on the front panel around the corner.

Then laquer the lot.

But the bonnet could still look different against the wing.

Its really apparent when looking side on with the door and the wing and "A" panel!

I just cant get over the fact that the moonraker blue is so not a colour match it really is so different and I have checked my colour codes for th car and it has not been resprayed.

I used one and a half rattle cans on the wing and a Panel combined, should I have applied more layers???

Cheers

Still very unlikely to be an absolute bob on match.

Only way to totally lose the repair is by blowing it out onto another panel.

But I understand you may not want to do this.
