I've removed both left and right top arms from my mini.

With one of the arms, the alloy trumpet just came out itself. The other is as pictured below:

It seems to be stuck in the top arm really badly, but I don't quite understand why?

So far I've tried standing on the top arm, and pulling the trumpet as hard as I can and doing the same, but having first heated the knuckle cup with a blow torch. Also putting it in the workbench vice...but then I end up lifting the (heavy) workbench.

I also tried soaking the joint in WD-40 overnight (although it does move freely) but this didn't help either.

Any suggestions as to how I can pull it out?

Grip / support the trumpet in a vice; use a drift or some sort and wack the knuckle from inside the trumpet.. Mini came out after a few wacks.

Of course it goes without saying you should properly support the trumpet and try not to damage it.

Thanks m1n1.

I'm re-using the top arm and putting in new knuckle/hi-lo. Therefore the old knuckle needs to come out too.

Bit of a problem :(

this is a random option that people will prob laff at me about lol, bus if you have an engine crane secure the arm solid then fix the crane onto the tumpet and use that to pull it off.....maybe? lol

Hmm..yes, does sound dangerous but I like it!

My neighbour has an engine hoist, but I'm thinking I might try using a jack. If no success as my neighbour tomorrow.

To make it safer I'll put a heavy blanket over the setup.

Try drilling a small hole in the bottom arm (there's a small one there anyway) just below the knuckle joint and see if that will release the vacuum.

Right, you guys are the best!

Clove hitch round the trumpet and a reef knot over the top of the jack. Brought it all up to pressure and it poped out beatifully!
