I bought this mini back in 02 with a Cabriolet conversion. It is the LHD European version, one of the last, I never put it on the highway, it has 442 miles. I run it around my property on a regular basis, I don't even know what engine is in it. Where can I get handbooks/manuals

It will be a MPi, a twin-point injection 1275cc A+ series engine. Will almost certainly have a 2.7 diff as well.

I was told they were geared for Freeway/motorway

That is right, the 2.7 diff equates to lower revs, a higher top speed and theoretically better miles per gallon.
