Hi all, im currently deseaming my rear valence and im having alot of trouble, i have ground off 6 inches like i was told and then tried to weld it up. But where i have ground, the panels have separated and and now there is a 5mm gap.

How do i join these together? I cnt seem to fill the gap with weld!

Cheers Chris

Mmm to be honest i would've said 6" at a time is too much. Not sure how you'd go about it,... maybe you could just bond and rivit a fibreglass seamless valance on, like the ones smudger sells

I had this same problem, what found is that id you grind back the lip just before the panels separate, then weld the ends of these panels together, then beat these panels back so they are more flush, then skim fill over this.

i'm doing mine too.. but i'm loosing the valance all together, i cleaned the join inside the boot first and mig welded a tack every few inches on the inside edge to hold the boot floor and rear panel together, then started cutting the valance and seam away. youmay have bitten off too much metal and will have to try and weld a sliver back in to hold everything and not cut as much off next time. once the main seam id off, you can grind/weld and hammer it back and fill over the top.

Tou can tack two peices of metal behind the rear valence sticking out either side of the cut and clamp them together with some welding clamps then weld the seam up and grind the two bars off behind the rear valence to solve that :P

This can be a bit of a problem, try cutting less at a time, and put a jack under the valance, with a bit of wood to spread the load on the bottom lip. jack it up slowly til the gap closes up, be careful how much you jack it, don't do it so much that it squashes the valance!

Magic... Why didnt i think of that, ok will try the jack idea.

Also my closing panels need replacing, and so does the boot floor around where they join, should i just cut out the boot floor where the closing panel joins to it, weld in a new bit of floor, then weld on the new closing panel?
