I am getting a 1997 mpi Cooper on Friday. The car is only fitted with the clock in the centre of the dash but I would like to add the Volt & Oil temp gauge as well.

Is the wiring already there to add the extra gauges?

If not obviously the Volt gauge is easy to wire up but what about the Oil temp gauge, What would I need.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before.

I recently bought a load of old Smiths gauges on Ebay. Im just looking in the Mini Sport catalogue an for the oil pressure gauge it looks like I will need:

1) Oil pressure switch
2) Oil pressure pipe
3) Lots of gaffa tape (im still looking)

I've just re-read your question and it relates to oil temp, not pressure. Sorry.

Hi, mine just had the clock in the centre and there is no more wiring behind the dash for extra gauges but belive that an extra loom can be bought for the extra gauges that plugs into the existing loom. theres one for sale on ebay at the moment

Just for anyone that reads this with a MPI Mini

The wiring for Volt & Oil Temp Gauges is already there, (Well it was on my 97 mpi) You just need the loom that connects the extra dials & this plugs into the existing connector that the time clock is already using.

There are 2 different looms so be aware, as the connections on the loom are different between a Caerbont Time Clock & a VDO Time clock though loom be modified with some spare terminals & crimpers.

I don't pretend to know anything about the late model Minis, especially not the MPIs. However, why would any generation Mini include wiring for (and where would they mount the sending unit for) oil temperature? When I've seen oil temperature gauges added to Minis it's either been done with a sandwich plate for the oil filter head or an inline housing that goes on the external oil pipe on the front of the block.
