Can you adjust the damping rate on the Koni Shock Absorber on the car or does it have to be removed?

Koni website not very helpful, just said remove the rubber bump stop and dust cover but I guess to do that it must be at least unbolted from the top mount? Okay on the front but a bit of a pig on the rear near side (fuel tank side)?

Anyone with a wizzi trick?

or shall I just get some Spax Units?????

PS - are the Cooper MPi's "standard" or "lowered" as originally supplied?

I think you have to remove them to adjust and the suspension is standard like on all Minis.

I've got Spax adjustable dampers fitted to my Mini and they've been on there for 12 years now without any problems.

You have to remove the Koni shocks in order to adjust them. If you have a Haynes Manual, there should be a section which tells you how to adjust them. All MPIs have standard height shock absorbers, the Koni adjustable ones came as standard on most Sportspack Minis but not all of them. Whether a late Mini is fitted with Konis appears to be decided by whatever shocks Rover had lying around at the time of building it.

If you are looking to change them, personally I would recommend Gaz adjustable shocks. These can be adjusted while still fitted to the car, simply by twisting a small button on each of them. They are pretty soft on their softest setting but can set very stiff if you need them to be. You can get them in both standard ride height or lowered ride height types.
