As above need to remove the caliper without loosing much fluid so was thinking of putting mole grips on the hoses while we do what we need to do?

you can by a special clamp that will do the job, halfords ill sell it, i wouldnt put the mole grips on the pipes. ultimatly upto you though, although they are braided, i would still be afraid of damaging them

yes, dont make any attempt to clamp a braided brake hose. I'm sure i read somewhere that their not designed to be clamped.

someone will correct me if I'm wrong but for now, to be safe, dont :bah:

Never clamp braided PTFE hoses. The hose itself inside the braid is plastic, not rubber. It won't recover from being clamped.

Aye, as above, dunna do it pud!

You could always do what I do and have a load of crimped copper brake pipes in your toolbox, with a load of different ends on them (made up of broken old brake pipes etc). Pop them on the end of the hose and it won't lose as much fluid. :bah:

I changed a brake pipe yesterday on a landrover. Cling film over the reservoir filler cap did the trick wonderfully!

Cling film under the res cap is a great idea and works but you can also use some plastic tube (B+Q do it) fit it over the end you have just undone and tape the other end somewhere that is higher up than the resevoir and it can't run out.
Neoprene , thats it, the type you get for fish tanks only bigger. :bah:
