wow!
another action packed race today
qualifying was wet and the first corner is humungus you hit it in 6th gear and try not to think about spinning off its basically flat out in the dry but i think everyone gave it some respect during the first few laps
we had seven minis there and qualifying positions were very good
mark proctor was 2nd
i managed 5th
paul (pro plant) was 6th in his first ever race in the v tec
Rob spencer was 11th but struggling with too much camber on his rear wheels (sorted for the race)
jem snowden was 15th
graham wynn 18th
and rob gough 19th after a trip to the gravel trying to avoid another car
the weather was cloudy and damp all day and everyone was wondering what tyres to fit
locals reckoned that slicks would be useless all day and wets were the only choice
watching the racing just before we started our race i decided that slicks could maybe work
everyone else went on wets
i spun twice on the formation lap !!! suddenly things were not looking good
at the start mark proctor got tagged by chris maries from behind and damaged the rear passenger suspension arm
he shot off into the lead only to spin om the first right hander when the bodywork jammed the left wheel when the car rolled onto it and it dug in, several cars had slight contact/moments avoiding him and there was a bit of a kerfuffle as they say on little britain
things sorted themselves out and then the race started in earnest
rob gough had a blinding drive from 19th to finish 3rd overall and set fastest lap time in the process another two laps and he could well have won
well done rob in the smallest engined car on the grid, starting at the back and doing that is frankly unbeleivable
next up from 11th on the grid was rob spencer now with correct camber on the back he drove a blinder as well in only his second meeting
jem snowden was 8th and again a good result in only his second meeting from 15th on the grid
mark proctor came in 10th with a re arranged rear arm not helping his cause
i was 13th and wishing id listened to the locals and used wets
pro plant paul was just behind in 14th and we had a few good laps together towards the end of the race
finally graham wynn came in 16th
so everyone got through the race and finished on the whole a very good weekend for the Z cars boys
looking forward now to Oulton park

Was really good coming to watch the Zcars yesterday. Bit of a pity the track hadn't dry out by the afternoon... Although it was fun watching the black Capri gently drift round the hairpin :D

Great drive by Rob Gough, he was really on the pace, although I didn't see how he and Paul Dobson got past the M3

Keep up the good work!

just goes to prove that a well sorted R1 driven right is pretty much as fast as a busa
we will monitor the cars this year to see how they all go against each other over several races but at present they all appear to be around the same in performance terms
obviously some tracks and conditions will suit different drivers etc but in the first two rounds of the championship weve seen a busa go from 13th on the grid to 3rd at the finish and an R1go from 19th to 3rd both cars were the fastest in terms of lap times at each race and i firmly beleive that a Z car can win outright in this championship
if qualifying goes right and they get a clean run through the race its very much on
mark proctor was 2nd on the grid on sunday and if he hadnt been hit in the first few feet of the start would no doubt have been well in with a chance
as for rob if he had only qualified in the top ten im sure he could have done it
the race was a good bit of development for the new fibreglass car and ive been busy playing with all sorts of stuff this week
watch this space we found quite a few areas we want to alter set up wise and im hoping for some noticeable improvements for the next round
i wont be so brave with tyre choice next time either!!

Chris did you notice much difference with the rear diffuser? I take it the bottom of the fibreglass car is pretty much flat?

Hi mutley,

The mini R1 will be at the next race at oulton park on the 26th may (bank holiday monday). It was nice to race through the field but im sure luck was on my side(sometimes you have to make luck!!) but all in all the R1 motor seemed to have good power.Im sure if i get off the line ok then a cracking race between us all will be had, after all the closer the racing the more fun had by all.

:( :) Kit car versus BMW Tank No Contest, still it gave Chris a clear run with his Z Cars mini.
Mk is now restored to health and will be at Oulton.
Any Chance of a disc copy of the footage from Chris,s car?
