rite having a look at whats about for 10" wheel brakes ive looked at a number of brakes and decided on either kad or the tarox b20's, i am running dunlop remakes, on drums at the moment

obviously i will need to purchase quite a few parts before i get the discs and calipers but my mummy said always find out before you buy the wrong thing

looking further into it as i understand the text off of the tarox website the tarox b20's can be fitted straight to the mini hub without any modifications other than changing the drive flange to the metro vented drive flange am i rite in saying this?

If i was going to go kad on the front i would most probably buy the non vented 7.5 inch calipers

1. Could someone give me a ruff price on how much these calipers are, are they cheaper than the vented ones
2. Do i have to buy kad specific discs and where from and a price or can i use e.g minispares coopers 7.5 disc
3. If i was going to buy the vented kad brakes in 7.5 do they differ from the price of the 7.9's
4. Do the discs fit on the 1275 hubs if bought from kad
5. Do the vented discs make the wheels stick out even further than a standard disc from the body work

Hope it makes sense

cheers josh

I've emailed tarox about the B20 kit, I'm waiting for their reply, i've already got 8.4 discs on mine at the moment, but i've got some weller 10's that i'll be fitting and i've been looking to upgrade the brakes for a while before i do some engine work, so the tarox kit would suit me

If they reply with anything usefull i'll let you know mate.

I've just heard back from someone at Tarox regarding their B20 kit, they do both solid disc and vented disc type, here's his reply:

"The solid kit can be supplied with either Cooper ‘S’ discs to fit Cooper ‘S’ drive flanges or with ground down 8.4’’ discs to 7.5’’ to fit the original Mini disc drive flanges. As for as I am aware when fitting the solid discs either Cooper ‘S’ or normal discs there is no modification to the hub needed. In the case of the vented discs if you are not already using vented metro hubs and flanges the Mini ones will need modification to the steering arm to accommodate the vented discs."

when i come to do it, i think i'll be going for the solid machined 7.5" ones becuase there's less hassle with that, its just a straight swap out.

1. On KADs website
2. Any discs will be fine. Minisport and KAD I believe are the only companies that sell 7.9" discs directly, but you can buy Mini 8.4" discs from anyone else and then just get an engineering firm to turn them down for you.
3. Again on the website. What you can do is buy the non-vented calipers now, and then buy a spacer kit at a later date to convert your non-vented calipers to vented. Only costs £12 odd for the longer bolts, and maybe that again for the spacers.
4. Yes, any non-vented Mini disc will fit standard disc assemblies. If you go to vented discs, independent of caliper, you'll have to use the Metro drive flange.
5. I believe so yes.

The person from Tarox said that that in order to fit vented discs you would need to use the metro vented drive flanges and then modify the steering arm on the mini hub to allow for the vented discs....i've not heard of this before, what sort of modifcation is needed i thought it was just a case of drive flanges and you were away

Some new information has come to light. When using the KAD vented discs, you use Mini drive flanges, not Metro as I said, but you need to modify the disks slightly.

All explained here.

about 13quid cheaper to have non vented over vented for the calipers alone

2. Do i have to buy kad specific discs and where from and a price or can i use e.g minispares coopers 7.5 disc

KAD use 7.75 discs, the biggest you can possibly fit to maximise braking torque, i.e. braking power... dont know the answer to this one as i've never tried and tested it myself!

3. If i was going to buy the vented kad brakes in 7.5 do they differ from the price of the 7.9's

no

4. Do the discs fit on the 1275 hubs if bought from kad

1275 Mini hubs? Yes.

5. Do the vented discs make the wheels stick out even further than a standard disc from the body work

No, the callipers are offset into the car, so you may find you'll have to angle grind the tiniest bit off the end of the steering arms so you dont mash up the discs, but they don't increase the tracking from a drum brake step up.

Hope that helps.

The biggest you can fit under what? I have 8.4" discs under 10" wheels at the moment, and I'm sure if I took them back to 8-8.2" I could lose the spacer I'm using.

Sorry wasnt very clear... KAD use 7.75" where other makers/suppliers use 7.5"

It depends massively on the wheels, 10" Genuine Minilites will take 7.9 brakes happily, but some Minilite copies will only take the 7.5/7.75" brakes.

Its best to phone the supplier of the brake callipers to find out what they recommend for your wheels... infact i believe KAD have a wheel template somewhere...
