HI everybody

I have just bought a 1985 Austin Mini City E automatic, it's a convertible and whats confusing me is, was it produced as a convertible or was it converted at some point in its life?? What would you say the value of one is, in a good nick? Cheers ;)

as an '85 its not a factory convertible I'm pretty sure - its probably an aftermarket conversion.

do you have a photo? that way I could make a guess which kit / company did it - they're all quite unique and fairly easy to distinguish.

value on something like this is tricky - factory cabriolets swap hands for as little as 4K but they are very prone to rot - it'll depend on who did the conversion, quality of finish then and now, and if it had any kind of inspection and enginners report once it was done - many didnt.

I'd guess ( if its really good and has got some good toys fitted ) 1200.00 - 1800.00

stick some photos on and I'll give you a better idea.

definitely a conversion! You can buy a kit to do this to a standard mini by cutting the roof off and welding in loads of strength to the floors and bulkheads!

Looks nice though

Thanks! I would like to start off with the body work which isn't in that bad a condition really and I would really like a full re-spray in jet black but I think the old penny situation will put an end to that and I'll just keep it blue. Want a white hood, it needs new tyres, and new wheel arches as you can see in the photo one is black and the others are blue! Not sure wether to get just the steel ones that clip over the top or replace them with sports pack ones. Got a new grille and 4 spots, and then just general shiny bits every where lol. Inside, basically strip it out with new seats, new carpets etc. And a custom dash and centre console. Not decided about ice yet, oh and I'm having a clifford alarm put in. Hopefully, after all that I'll have it just perfect ^_^

Does the front of the hood above the windscreen have poppers across it or a metal band which clips under a ridge??
