Not all the time, but occasionally when I come to a stop, or more often when I turn the engine off, a couple of seconds later and the car does a fairly high pitched rasping fart!

I'm not overly worried about it, but anyone know why it does this?

might be your inlet manifold leaking air, although this is normally a whistle. Worth checking though - make sure the inlet and exhaust manifolds are on tight

Likely air bubbles in the rad - when you turn off the engine is still hot and the water stops flowing, so the water temp at the rad goes up, and the fluid and any air expands.

My old Marcos used to do this - it'd run fine all day then as soon as it was turned off it'd empty coolant all over the floor.

Your engine might be running a bit hot. Does it diesel or run on? (i.e have a bit of a chug after the ignition is turned off)?

Doesn't sound like air escaping from a manifold BUT there does seem to be a slight escape of exhaust gases around the manifold gasket since I changed the head.

Could be something to do with the water, I shall look in that area.

It doesn't run on.

Just got back from a 70 mile journey and 2 seconds after turning off the engine it just gave off a most impressive fart!
Seems to only do it after long runs.

Cheers guys
