hi all just curious i have a garmin Nuvi sat nav which has as a background screen a speedometer which is pretty accurate if i installed that as my dash and left it on the speedo screen would it pass an MOT as if it were the speedo

Needs to have the capability of being able to record mileage to be legal... i have never had a working speedo in the stealth and used a road angel.
speedo cable will be connected after this engine rebuld though.

One that looks like it works, but doesn't. As far as I know there are no actual checks to see if it really works.
The only chance of being caught out is on the brake rollers?

MOT doesn't test speedo but it's still a legal requirement.

Im sure speedos have to take the speed from the car, not from a gps signal.

my sat nav does record distance traveled avg speed time moving time stopped max speed acheived so would this class as ok

No, because its not car specific ie it will only record the distance the unit has travelled. Since the sat nav can be taken from vehicle to vehicle it doesn't qualify.

just fit a dummy speedo for the mot and remove it after.
they dont test the speedo on a mot test.

what if i mount the gps in a speedo enclosure so it cant be removed

It still wont be legal because its not a purpose made speedometer.

Trust me you get a "non endorsable " fine for not having a correct manufactured fitted working speedometer if the copper wants to be funny.
