I have a 1380 at the moment,

Basically this one : Trackday 1380
but with a stage 3 head :
STAGE 3 FAST ROAD 998-1275-SPI-MPI:

A fantastic all round road head used on engines from 998cc to 1380cc with fantastic power and torque gains proven on our dyno, it comes fully modified polished and ported using road quality valves and Steel guides. The chambers are re-shaped to enhance flow and aid squish then balanced and polished. The head is then re-surfaced to give desired compression and assembled with new valve stem oil seals, 160lb double valve springs, painted in either RED-BLUE-BLACK or BMC GREEN ready to fit. 998 uses 32.0 x 26.8mm valves and the 1275 uses 35.7 x 29.6mm valves.

I am now thinking of adding a supercharger, am i gonna have to have the engine back apart or can i still make good power using the setup i have? I have been looking at jonspeeds conversion with the de-compression plate.
It is making 81bhp at the wheels currently but it just isnt as much as i want!

Any advice please!

Hi Fishey

I have just emailed Jonspeed about their supercharger kit, as I have been told they have an issue with fitting. I am awaiting their reply.

As far as the decompression plate goes, I dont really see it as a bodge its a matter of making things work. If it works its fine. Motor vehicle engineering has come a long way in the last 100 years ago and like a lot of things it has got too civilised.

Yea i have heard mixed reports on the jonspeed kits, but to be honest if its rubbish and doesnt fit it will go back! But the i was asking wanting a bit of advice if my spec at the moment is gonna be any good? I might have to give morspeed a ring and see what they say, they to charged engines.

Im running a MED 1380 with plates with no problem at all. I am using a Vmax kit rather than a Jonspeed. I just went to the best people with a track record in their respected fields. Then got Slark to fit it all lol!!! Lazy :P

that is the way im going! im still on my 998cc intill my insurence is a lot cheaper. then im getting a stage 4 1380!
then a year after a nice new Jonspeed supercharger. and will definatly make sure they don't use decompression plates on mine. as blowing one headgasket is bad enough let alone two. (one ether side of the plate.)

by the way jonspeed is my local mini specuallist. so i might get the supercharger discounted the amount im advertising on here. and my mini.

oh and i have been in an agruement before about vmax and jonspeed superchagers. as for me im just getting a jonspeed one regardless. as they are my local ones. im just getting what is easier and as i put above maybe discounted. (jonspeed can it be 10%??)

I am now thinking of adding a supercharger, am i gonna have to have the engine back apart or can i still make good power using the setup i have? I have been looking at jonspeeds conversion with the de-compression plate.

as for bhp. i have been told jonspeed put a supercharger onnn a 1380. and reached 173bhp (flywheel) and 150bhp at the wheels.

im going for 150bhp at the wheels. as my target.
