Hi everybody

Well im about to embark on my first turbo build and as a complete newbie not just to turbo's but to the inner components of engines in general this is going to be a very steep learning curve. But heh everybody has to start somewhere right and i have a mechanic friend ho is going to keep an eye on me from time to time to make sure i dont do anything drastically wrong. :(

First quick question is eventually i will be creating a project build thread i wanted to know if this is the place to put it or does it need to go in mini engined projects?

Anyway on to the good stuff as a bit of background this is the kit that i just got recently as a bargain off ebay so should give you some idea of the kind of spec i will be building.

Clicky

So im making a start on the block work and as the cylinders are in good condition the next thing i need to look at is the centre main cap.

This is where i wanted some opnions. I want to build a reliable bullet proof engine so although money is an issue if it is a toss up between quality or cost , quality will win everytime. Im the type of person who cant stand bodges and i like things to be done right first time round.

This would therefore dictate that i replace the centre main cap completely with the four bolt version. However at over £80 for the cap itself and then machining costs on top of that is this complete overkill and would the normal strap option be perfectly adequate.

Just wanted to see what you guys were running as well in your turbos?

Kind regards

Stewart ;)

To be honest i don't know many people who use the 4bolt cap on their Turbo motors. It's usually high revving NA engines which require them. If you can really afford it then for peace of mind fit one, but it's certainly not essential.

agree with phil, always had a totally standard bottom end on mine (bar pistons) only on the last rebuild i fitted a centre main strap and arp rod bolts because i wanted to up the rev limit a shade.

I'd use the ARP rod bolts as bud says. These are worth adding in any tuned motor IMO.
