We posted a wanted add for a idle air control valve which seems to be broken off in our 1275 mpi engine. Is the idle air control valve and the air bypass valve the same? Also what exactly does it do? We are having a very difficult time trying to find a new or used one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Help-what Does The Air Bypass Valve Do?

If you want a used one then try your local scrappy for a k-series rover as most the inlet gubbins are shared, always good to have a few spares knocking around.

See if you can get a part number then do some googling to find likely donors. The injection system on MPI's is top end Memacs stuff as used on VVT engines - dunno if that also applies to the air valve. Which, incidentally, acts like a second throttle controlled by the ECU so it can hold a steady idle etc when your foot is off the pedal.
