Hi just after bit of advice. Mot'd car today failed badly on rot under floor everything else is okish (ball joint fail) Needs new rear sub frame, but also repair or replace mounting area where sub frame joins at back also floor front, near and offside. Is this too big a job to tackle been told by garage not to bother, thought nearly every part was replaceable. Subframe on its own would attempt just dont want to get rid really. Lots of hard work gone into all other problem areas even brakes good.

Any comments really especially others been in similar situation

cheers matt

Really depends how much the car is worth and if you can weld.

The kick board can be a pig basically because if that's rotten, then it's likely that the inner and outer sills are also rotten around that area.. or there will be very little metal to weld a replacement patch/panel to

floors not so much of a problem, but likewise once you start chopping parts out you usually find other problems...

I hate to think how much it'd cost for a garage to do it..

garage will cost a fortune cheaper to buy a welderand some scrap steel and teach yourself to weld then you can fix the rest for just the price of the panels and of course its worth doing its a mini if you do all that welding itl be solid for years and the price a mini is worth is only going to go up now they are getting rare so eventually youl get your money back

Found a local mini fanatic by chance that races his minis. He was really helpful and put my mind at rest made the job seem a lot more realistic he has welded and fitted floors, mounting plates and subframes. He basically told me the same thing try it yourself its not as hard as it sounds. I think i had already wanted to attempt but the garage made it sound near impossible thanks for the response just needed views of like minded mini owners just to confirm.

Thanks for your help

matt
