i have bought 2 cars from ebay a 1970 clubman, looked beautiful in the pics and the guy seemed really genuine (he even delivered it for very little considering it was a 300 mile round trip) etc

the car was a dog it looked fantastic on the surface but when i made the error of stripping it for a rebuild i found so much filler and bodge that i think the only thing keeping the car straight was the roll cage saying that i still made money on the engine and bits etc

the second one was total sight unseen and cost me 300 notes and it is the straightest truest mini i have owned so far yes it needs welding but i knew that when i bought it the car was exacly as described and when i pointed out the full beams were not working the bloke knocked 50 off the original ask

so it comes down to buyer beware and faith in humanity

I bought an MG Midget off ebay. I found it there, then went and had a good close look at it before I bid. All seemed fine, I even had it on ramps. BUT. 11 weeks later, a clamp holding the rear leaf spring together fell apart because it was so rusty under a thick layer of waxoyl. The car span and a landrover found me. The car was so full of rot that there was more filler than metal on it. I am in the middle of a court-case for a refund, as I bought it from a garage. I am currently 1200quid down. If I had seen it for sale normally, I would still have bought it on what i could see, and i had 2 experts look over it before the accident. They didnt see anything wrong with it. It is not JUST ebay that has bad cars, they are everywhere. Just look as best you can, and TAKE A MAGNET WITH YOU to test for filler!

Ever buy the cars after you have "examined" them?
