[my_first_mini]

finally got my mini up and running after a few months lol need to replace battery as mines shot to bits.... i was wondering if i need to get a specific battery?

Anyone who sells batteries should be able to sell you the correct one for a mini.

This is an area that always amazes me. It is a difference in the U.S. and U.K. automotive market that is so different that it defies explanation.

In the U.S. batteries are identified by their "group number" which describes the size and terminal location. Beyond the group number there are performance specifications such as "cold cranking amps" and "reserve capacity". If a car owner knows the group number of the battery in his/her car they can go to an automotive parts store, find the right battery size, and then select how much performance they are willing to pay for. If the owner doesn't know the group number they can tell the counter clerk they need a battery to fit a 1992 Ford Taurus or similar. Try that with a Mini, a Triumph, or an MG and they won't find a match over here.

I'm always amazed when I see threads about battery selection in Europe because the responses will be posts like "get a battery for a Peugeot diesel X" or "I got one that fits a Volkswagen Y". I've never bought a battery based on what car it was originally designed for and it amazes me that you guys do it that way.

lots of members say a 306 desiel battery is a good one to get (not saying this is right) just read it alot!!

ive heard that a company called optima do a red top battery, that is the biggest, and most powerfullest one on the whole universe that can fit in a mini, or, on the other hand, i may be completely, utterly wrong.

Over here, we quote the Ah when we go to buy a battery. Well I think it is the Internation standard measure for a battery, Ampere Hour!

I usually buy either a 40Ah or a 60Ah if you have some ICE and fogs. Usually lasts about 5-8 years, well depending on the use and engine spec and condition obviously!

no not from halfords, standard mini battery is a 063 i think. got it from the garage at the top of the estate by my work £40 quid cash

Hi guys,

I have this battery, cant recommend it more. Very good if your mini is second car...Can easily leave the car for several weeks and it has more than plenty oomph to turn over the car and start it first time every time!

Where did you get that Exide battery from? Motor World were stocking them, but they're now stocking a different brand instead.

Hi,

I got this a while ago, maybe a year and half to two years ago, from my local Motorway Tyres, now known as McConnechys.

My dad, brother and I were regular customers at the time, so knew the guy a bit so he said he would sort me out with a good battery for my purpose.

If your after one, might be worth phoning them.
