just finnishing off my 1340cc clubman then i was going to build up my 76 gt for my partner.
seen as its nothing but an extremely rotten shell i was thinking of putting in a more modern engine.
then i heard rover v8+princess box=fun mini!!
thats the plan but ive not seen one princess box for sale!!
any one got any experience on these conversions? front engine? rear engine?
or should i forget it and fit a k series?

go vauxhall power. be the first to put a v6 in there.much more power than a v8 rover.v8 rover has 150bhp ish and vauxhall v6 has 180bhp as standard.you know you want to.

mine is quite fun, but if i was doing it all again i think i would go for a honda Vtec conversion.
the V8 was hard work as its all home made adapters ect, plus like you have said the gear box's aren't easy to find.
the power isnt great on the rover V8, but there is loads of torque which is just as important as the horses.
its worth it for the sound, but for an easy conversion i'd go V tec as kits are available already

thanks for the replies im not neccessarily after an easy conversion as i want this project to be something to really get stuck into.
i do like the v8 but i'd guess the v tec is quicker especially roung the track.
did you (v8 mini) get all your handling issues sorted out? i seem to remember reading on "your?" web site that it was rather lairy when you lifted off.
as for the vauxhall v6 i'd love too but they are prob expensive and rare ish. my mate has a mg zs and thinks i should fit a kv6 like in his.

if it wasnt rare it wouldnt be worth doing lol
im really thinking of doing the v6 swap.
also the v6 engines are cheaper than the redtops and they have much more power and sound amazing

I don't think there are many engines which have not been tried in the mini...
What I'd like to see is an electrically powered one... see how that shifts off the line.

I've got a '75 clubman (one of two) which is going to have it's last summer on the road for a while this year (MOT permitting). Then I'm planning on doing some major re-engineering to the front end to try and squeze in a FWD V6. The engines I'd considered were Rover KV6, Vauxhall V6, VW VR6 (very narrow V on this one). More research to be done a little nearer the time.
I like the challenge of making something none standard fit, but I don't like to make things too hard for myself. So... I'll be buying a complete car to butcher for bits. That way you get ellectrics, mountings cooling etc etc and you can sell of the good bits on the shell. The best place to go are write off auctions like bluecycle. It's a bit of gamble on what car you get, but they are much cheeper and you can always brake them or sell them on if it doesn't work out.
