Hello everyone, well whilst nosing around Ebay, as you do, I found something that just made me grin like an idiot, which with me isn't too difficult.

Well, a couple of bids later and I was off to Luton to pick up my second ongoing project.

I think I will call him Scampie, and at the minute I am getting him sorted to get an MOT. He runs like a pig, the carb was worn but I have changed that, putting on new shocks, replacing the rear bearings, and putting 12" discs onto the front end. Also needs a good tune up but hopefully that should do it.

Something fun to wizz around London in during the summer, and where ever else I want to go.

One good thing I also got with this is seven weller 4 spokes, originally fitted to the Stimson kit cars. I have never seen these before, and REALLY want to clean them up and fit them to my mini instead. (half inch spacers and about 2 mm ground off of the brake calipers and they should fit over 8.4 inch disks apparently) They may stick out quite a bit so maybe migla arches are needed.

Got new plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm today, plus a new timing gun as my other one has packed up (not been used in 6 years so maybe thats why) and a new easy bleed kit.

So now I have to balance the time between Scrappy the mini, Scampie the, what ever he is, and the wife and kids. Oh, and work. I need about 30 hours in the day, lol.

It's still registered as a 1980 mini clubman convertible!!!!!

It was a hand built project, originally designed to be towed behind a motorhome. The chassis is made from steel box tubing, with the subframes attached in such a way as to enable you to unbolt them with two spanners (a lot of planning went into this on the rear subframe), and the front towers bolt through tubes welded to the inside of the chassis rails.

The rubber bushes here have perished a bit so I am replacing them with alloy ones, it's not as though noise reduction is an issue, a K&N on the intake and a straight through exhaust mean that Scampie is never going to be quiet, lol.

It has a few L2B and various other run stickers on it, none since 2003 so I guess thats probably the last time it was on the road. The guy I got it from was going to get it going for the run to Newquay the other week, but decided to concentrate on his Elf instead.

I want to get it on the road for either august or septembers Ace Cafe meet.

I spoke to Andy for about an hour about it before I even put on a bid, then I had to bid blind as I was working away. I picked it up the day after and to be honest, it's in better condition than I expected. Sort of rough and scruffy around the edges, but so ugly it's kind of cute.

I'n thinking of altering the front end slightly, taking out the vertical slats if only to allow access to the front of the engine, covering the hole with a chopped up land rover defender grill, and maybe plate over the front of the wheel arches. I need to extend the sides to cover the tyres, at the moment they stick out almost 3 inches either side. Maybe something else I can 'borrow' from a defender?

Lol, I was thinking of the Mini Defender look, means boxing off the front end a bit and a bit of work on the front arches, but I may even go the whole hog, get a roll cage built up to cover the back, stick a pick, shovel and small jerrycan on it and make it into a Mini WMIK (the stripped out bombed up Rovers you see in Iraq and Afgahnistan)

It is fun, very small and very nimble, and even on drums the back is so light that hit the brakes hard enough and you can almost stand it on it's nose. I may have to stick a paving slab in the back to even out the weight distribution.

Shame I can't move the headlights out, so it will be a cross between a defender, an air portable lightweight Ser2/3 Land Rover, and a hot wheels toy jeep.

I'll have to have a chat with the police to find out the score with making a mock-up .50Cal to mount on the roof, and try and find a sandy cam-net to drape over it. (I'm a squaddie so that won't be hard at all, lol.)

Lol, My imagination is going into overdrive with this, work and play all rolled into one.
