What is the difference between a Cooper Sport and a Cooper Sportpack??? I'm confused! :)

I thought a quick mini was the Cooper S or did the change it to Cooper Sport.

Mine says Cooper Sport on the back but it has the Sportpack arches.

Can someone help me out of my pit of confusion?

Thanks in advance

I think the cooper s sportspack was the last 500 made ?

They have a metal plaque inside the glovebox saying i think what number out of the 500 that particular one is.

Shines the large Anorak signal into the night sky and waits for Anorak to come swooping in driving a mini spewing various details that the rest of us could only remember if we attached a few terabyte hard drives to our heads!! :)

The signal is kinda like the Bat signal but has a mini on it instead lol :D

So the Cooper S was a run of 500 and the sportpack was just a normal model. :)

But Ollie has Cooper Sport badge on the back but none of the metal plaques or anything. I'm still confused, sorry for being dumb

I think the ONLY mini to get the "S" mark after the last of the real cooper S's finished in 1971 was the ones which got breathed on by JCG....

Anorak is the man to ask, but I don't think there was ever a 90's cooper S, well not one worthy of the name...

Cooper Sportspack - all Mpis fitted with Rover 13's and sportspack arches from the factory, normall cooper colours with white stripes decals and roofs. Interiors vary according to purchasers specification

Cooper Sports - all Mpis fitted with Rover 13's and sportspack arches from the factory. Colours red, green, black, blue with silver detailing. Interiors leather seats in black and nickle, turned ali dash and alloy door furniture.

Cooper Sports 500 - same as above apart from plaque in glovebox, a bag full of goodies and i think a high level brake light as standard (nb my Cooper Sport which isnt a 500 came with the brakelight as did all those purchased from Dutton Forshawe in Blackpool as standard)

well the main thing to remember is not to confuse the cooper sports or a sports pack cooper with a cooper "S". they are completely different.

from 1996 onwards there were two cars in the range. the mini and the mini cooper. available on the options list was a "sports pack" (13inch wheels, arches, Koni dampers, large bore chrome tailpipe, two driving lamps, two fog lamps, sports accelerator pedal and extra gauges). cars fitted with the sports pack would become a mini cooper sports pack or more commonly a sports pack mini. they would carry a badge on the boot lid that simply said "cooper sport" theses were not standard factory models, they were in-fact standard models fitted with an optional extra.

in April 2000 the range was changed to three cars. the mini classic seven, the mini classic cooper and the mini classic cooper sport. the classic cooper sport now came with the 13inch wheels and arches as standard.

now, the last 500 cars ever made were all Mini classic cooper sports and were known as the 500's. these were not limited editions, they were the last 500 production cars. which is something else altogether.

to confuse things slightly there was in-fact a cooper sports LE in 1998. this had the then optional sports pack as standard, as did a few other limited edition models of the time.

now the cooper "S" was available in the 90's but only as a john cooper conversion. the carb conversion was available from march 1991 and the injection conversion from march 1992. the cooper S was never a standard production model but if you ordered a brand new car with the S conversion it was possible to have it registered as a cooper S or a cooper Si. the conversion would come with new decals that clearly stated cooper S.

again to confuse things, John cooper garages created an official rover backed Cooper S special edition in 1995 with the engine conversion and upgraded trim.

they also went on to produce the Cooper S touring, the cooper S sport-5 and the cooper S works, all in 1999. again these were rover backed special editions with fixed specs.

if you really want to go nuts then i guess you could order a mini cooper with optional sports pack and an "S" conversion and have a cooper S sports pack but that's only going to turn our brains to jelly.

one more thing. the S in cooper S does not really stand for anything. i have a video of JC himself explaining that when the "original" cooper S was launched BMC wanted to call it the Cooper Special. John cooper hated this name and said it would have to be called the "S". so strictly speaking the S is an alternative to the word special and does not actually stand for special and certainly doesn't stand for sport.

confused ??? :D yeah, well then stop asking such anal questions :)
