I'm thinking of importing a mini from japan and although I know a little about the process I have a couple of worries,

Can anyone help me out?!

Does anyone know the process that goes into changing the mileometer from km to miles, is it a bit dodgy?
What about if I want proof of the mileage, does the japanese documentation they sometimes come with prove the mileage, how do I tell?

Anyone know of any other cons I should think about?

All i do know is that they are always totally rust free and they have air-con and low miles (kms?!)

I am hunting for a rust free (I know I know talk about impossible) blue or white mini, must have an airbag and low mileage, 1.3 engine.

Yeah the Japanese deregistration documents and export documents should be available from the importer and include all pertinent vehicle info much like our MOT and V5s

Beware though, the aircon compressor can be hard to source, as it is a specific aircon compressor for the Mini, and you need a bigger diameter poly-v fanbelt (1996+ cars with airbags) or two fanbelts (one smaller for the alternator-to-compressor, and one bigger for the compressor-to-the-pulleys) Aircon rips power from the engine, and a bit worse mpg too... Rust is not an issue. Those jap cars are mostly rust free, though few rust usually appear on the bottom rail of the doors.

And, there's no MPi engine nor front-mounted radiator for the Jap-spec late cars. They will still have the MPi block and distributor-less system, but with single-point injection and side-mounted radiators like older Minis.
