Dear All

I've just acquired a 1969 Cooper for renovation: details are at:

Mini Cooper

Any thoughts / comments will be much appreciated!

Wyn

apart from seething jealousy ???

If you have space available, strip it to the shell, everthing out off and stored.

That way you'll know your starting point is solid.

Very nice indeed! As suessworks advises, remove EVERYTHING but make sure you put all the bolts for the thing you took off in a clearly marked box! (preferably with the part they go with)! And do as much of the work yourself as you can so you know it's done properly!

Oh and get rid of that bloody Awful Bullet mirror and replace it with either orginal spec wing mounted mirrors or a seam mounted mirror! those Bullet mirrors are the worst one you can get!

Thanks both

I am seriously considering the bare shell rebuild - should I get the shell shot / sand blasted once it's stripped?

I've cleared all the shelves in the garage for the bits and I've got loads of boxes, bags and labels ready!

I've built a few minis from bare shells previously, but they've all been stripped out race cars so this will be a greater challenge!

I would'nt sand or shot blast it as you'll be diggin bits out of crevisis for years to come.... take the time and use paint stipper and do it a bit at a time, probably repairing as you go.

I've done one complete strip rebuild and have just taken a winter break on the second.. have a gander at me website for a laugh.

Some pictures after the partial strip down - it'll go to the body work chappie as a rolling shell as it's easier to move!
