Dear all,

I have suspicions about the answer to this one but would like some clarification before doing anything i shouldnt!

My mini has not had a great amount of use just recently and this problem does not happen all the time.

Switch key off and engine runs on for a couple of turns before dieing. Is this slightly dirty carb or something else. If it is carb what should i be cleaning?

thank you.

Usually caused by a coked up engine. You get little nodgers (technical term) of carbon build up that glow red inside the engine. When you turn off, these nodgers act as glow plugs and ignite any fuel still in the system - causing the run on. You might even find that it is running backwards for this time. Other cars don't normally do this because they have a fuel cut-off solenoid, which the SU doesn't have.

Cure is a good long high speed run, possibly with some additive or other in the petrol to clear the coking.
