HI
I am building a fibreglass mini minus.
As the finish is somewhat rough in places I used a tough underseal (doesn't dry sticky or rubbery) that dries a nice textured black, matt finish.
I want to do the engine bay in the same, can anyone recommend a supplier and make. The motor shop that I used to buy this stuff from has stopped stocking it and I don't think Halfords has ever sold it.
Cheers
Russ

Welcome to TMF
Hmmm, it wasn't 'stonechip' was it? Things like schultz and waxoil do tend to dry rubbery so i see what you mean about not wanting to use.
try posting this up in the 'Paint and Bodywork' section of the forum, also do a search in that forum,... You will find lots of pictures and previous threads about very similar questions to yours.
Sorry i couldn't be of more help... I like my sticky Waxoil thankyou very much

P.S> can i buy your fibreglass mini please,.. i'll give you 1 Hobnob and a half used tin of Autosol

lol cheers mate
I'm afraid it's not for sale yet, took me years to find a Minus! Plus I'm hoping to get it in a mag as the first 7 port A series minus, damn head cost an absolute fortune!!
It might have been stonechip, the rubbery stuffs great for what it's intended for i.e. underseal but in the engine bay I just think i might look a bit....well you know!
I'll try googling it.
Ideally I'd get it sprayed the body colour when it has it's respray but as it's fibreglass I think a textured black paint would look better and disguise the 'rough' finish you get with the strands in the fibre glass.
cheers

I used some of this stuff on the underside of my fg flip front. Wunderseal from Car Builder Solutions
Tough stuff to put on, it's really really thick sticky old stuff. But put on thick enough then smoothed with a filler blade it'll disguise the texture of the grp.

To give you an idea. This has been overpainted with 2k only. The stuff goes on grey. I'm happy with the results but I think it could be done better. I only bought one tin and that just about did the inside of front end. You could get it smoother with another coat maybe.
