Hi all.

Just finished spraying the inside of my project but its seems to be that the paints on the dull side, its henley blue so I presumed its just basecoat or does it need laquer aswell??

What would be the cause of the dullness??

Thanks.

Paul.

What have you sprayed it with celly? 2k??... if it is basecoat then yes it needs laquer for the shine.

A single stage paint (1k) will not need laquer.

Not necessarily, you can get cellulose (1k) base.

Heres some pics, the interior has come out slightly dull but I didn't prep it aswell as the outside because most of it will be hidden, but the bootlid has come out great.

The colours Henley Blue so I wouldn't think it would need a laquer as its a base colour??

When I was doing a few repairs to mine (its henley blue aswell) the aerosol i got for it was a two stage so needed to laquer aswell to get the true coluor.
May be different for a proper spray jobby though.

Definitely looks like basecoat. The inside of the boot looks more satin, which basecoat can look like if it's applied quite thick.

By basecoat do you mean it needs laquering??

The boot lid has come out quite nice actually its actually shiney, the pic doesn't show it justice.

Would a henley blue mini for the factory be laquered??

Also could I have got it in 1 stage or is it just the way the colour is?? because all I asked for at the paint shop was henley blue cellulose and thats what I got. Did I need to tell him if I wanted 1 stage or 2 stage??

Thanks.

Paul.

Hmm not sure, would have to see the paint to be able to say. If asked for that blue in solid gloss celly, then that's what you should have. If he thought you meant base, I'm sure he would have asked. If you have problems with it being dull when you do the outside, it wouldn't do any harm lacquering it anyway. Celly usually needs a good polish to get a decent shine anyhow.

I've had trouble with henley blue before, some paint manufacturer have 2 different shades of this

This mini was henley blue

[attachment=59051:009.JPG]

When I had painted mixed for it(to vin code)

The paint came back as a muddy shade of blue?

hmmmmm. Well I got my paint from Jawels Paints and it says on the sticker with the paint code and name "cellulose car paint" I gave him the colour code and I just presumed because its a solid colour and not matallic it wouldn't need laquer.

Heres another pic for the boot, might give you a better idea.

I didn't prep the inside hardly because most of the interiors covered, Im going to give the main exterior a go I think with a good polish it will come up nice, failing that I will just go over with a laquer.

Thanks guys.

Paul.

If I paint anything celly I laquer it in 2k.

Makes it 'shinyer' and stops that way too.

Bit of an update, phoned the paint supplier today and they said the paint doesn't need a laquer, so Im going to spray it on and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

Paul.
