hi just wondering if there is any cons on welding the bonnet shut on a metal flip front so it all opens up as 1 piece.
cheers

I'm welding mine to my wings, i really can't see any cons at all.
Might be tricky to get the grillie outer bit on, but i'm sure theres a way around it!
Quite a hassle trying to get the hinges for both the flip front and bonnet to work concurrently.

Nothing wrong with doing it that way, although i always bolt them on, using spacers to get the gaps right. This way you can make small adjustments to the overall width of the flip front which makes getting a neat fit much easier....
Once you weld it you can't adjust it, so make sure you get it right before you do it...

thanks for the replies . i couldnt think of any cons either thats why i asted, and the bit about having the bonnet hinge up to on the standard hinges dosent do it for me really, thats why i thought of welding it on so its all 1 bit.i think if the bonnet lifts one way and the front the other it looks really weired.
i might be going to far with this but the gaps!!!.
i was thinking of welding all the gaps up and smoothing with filler to make it totally smooth.im also fitting a rga body kit and wide wheels with a smooth boot lid.
have i gone to far or will it look ok.
comments good or bad welcome.

The return edges of the bonnet and the gutters of the wings will need some sort of rust preventative before you weld them together though?

Well, if your front end is anything like the ones i have done, you end up with a gap either side of the bonnet of between 8-10mm. This will not be easy to weld up and fill. Don't forget that you can't use too much filler, as a steel flip front will flex quite a lot when you open it up...
When i did my van, i filled the gap along the front, as i used non-genuine panels, and the gap wasn't very even from one end to the other, so we just filled it in.
