I've been looking for a picture of the tool to post for you... but have had no luck.

You need the tool. You can improvise your own but buying the tool isn't too bad when you weigh it against the price of having a glass installer do the job for you. The tool can be improvised by taking a very heavy piece of coat hanger wire. Fold the wire around a rod perhaps 1/2" or 12mm in diameter. Once you've formed a tight loop, take needle nose pliers and re-shape the loop into a diamond/square. What you're going for is a diamond shape where the sides are pretty much equal. The two "legs" of coat hanger wire go off one corner of the diamond (not from a side) to form a handle (best held by mole grips or similar). Lube up the rubber opening on the car with "personal lubricant" then open the slot with the tool you've made, insert the lock strip (start at the bottom/center of the glass) then drag the tool slowly around the rubber, gently pushing the lock strip in as you go.

There is a better one though with a roller on it, it makes it quite easy I have just put mine in with it.
